All about CBD
CBD is one of many compounds in the cannabis plant. Other than tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), it is the plant’s most abundant compound.
Differences between full-spectrum and broad-spectrum CBD?
Full-spectrum cannabidiol (CBD) and broad-spectrum CBD are two of the three main types of CBD extract. The main difference between the two relates to the presence of other naturally occurring plant compounds within the extract.
The main difference between full-spectrum and broad-spectrum CBD is the compounds they contain.
If a CBD product contains several naturally occurring cannabis plant extracts, such as terpenes and other cannabinoids — including up to 0.3% THC — it is full-spectrum CBD.
Broad-spectrum CBD also contains several cannabis plant compounds, but it is typically entirely free of THC. That said, there may sometimes be trace amounts of THC in broad-spectrum CBD products.
CBD isolate is the third common form of CBD. This is the pure form of CBD and contains no other cannabis plant compounds.
CBD Oil Products (from cbdmd)
CBD oil doesn’t necessarily just contain CBD and oil. Cannabis sativa synthesizes over 100 phytocannabinoids, with CBD and THC being two of the most well-recognized cannabinoids in the scientific community. But there are others of importance, specifically CBN and CBG.
What Is Full Spectrum CBD? (medicalnewstoday)
The cannabis plant contains hundreds of different phytochemicals including cannabinoids, terpenes, and other compounds. Full-spectrum CBD or hemp oil generally refers to products that not only contain CBD but contain other plant molecules as well. Full-spectrum CBD has numerous other cannabinoid compounds from the cannabis plant, along with low levels of THC. Usually, the THC quantities are less than 0.3% on a dry weight basis since this is the federal law requirement for CBD products. This version of CBD oil is minimally refined, leaving most of the cannabinoids and terpenes intact.
Full spectrum, sometimes also called “whole plant,” means the full plant extract is included. Full spectrum provides more of the plant’s molecules in ratios and amounts that nature intended.
While there is still more research to be done, there are indications that show cannabinoids and terpenes work together to influence each other. This synergistic effect is called the entourage effect and has seen CBD work with THC to reduce the effects of a high and CBD to influence one’s own cannabinoid receptors.
What is Broad Spectrum CBD?
Like full spectrum, CBD oil labeled broad spectrum also uses cannabidiol with all the other compounds found in hemp. However, there’s one active ingredient that gets removed after the extraction process – THC.
Broad spectrum CBD retains several of the different cannabinoids, such as CBN and CBG. And because the broad spectrum also uses additional terpenes and flavonoids, it can generate the entourage effect without THC
